House Fire - 2/20/08 - Wagner Drive

On February 20th @ 23:56 units were dispatched for a house fire in the area of the 2200 block of Ritner Hwy. County received a second call from the home owner advising that the location was 7 Wagner Drive and everyone was out of the house. Utility 47 arrived and advised we had a fully involved double wide. Engine 49 arrived with heavy fire showing on a ranch style house. Deputy Chief Davidson requested 2 additional Tankers. Crews started to make an interior attack and then were pulled out for safety. A FF from Co. 47 fell through the floor and was transported to the hospital for burns. Crews remained on the scene until approx. 03:00. Thanks to Co. 46 for covering the station.

Tankers - 49, 52, 150, 250, 151 & 251

Truck & Air 53 , Rescue 47, Utility 49, Ambulance 47 & 53, Squad 54 for RIT

Interresting Note: The morning of the fire the house was completley removed and footers were being dug for the new house by late afternoon

2007 Awards Presented

On Wednesday night February 13 at our regular fire company meeting we handed out awards for 2007. The list below are the recipients:

Presidents award - Exel Inc. for continued support of our operation

Presidents award - Safe-T-Zone for continued support of our operation

Current President Tony Burkett presented Tim Goshorn with an appreciation plaque for serving as Company President for the past 15 years

Top Fire Responder - Keith Beam - 104 calls out of 156 possible 

Top EMS Responder - Albert Grove - 33 calls out of 45 possible, also a certificate from the Fire Services Institute for 32 years of continued service with the South Newton Fire Company

Top Training hours - Rich Stambaugh

Fire Chief's award - Tony Burkett - Top overall responder with 123 calls out of 198 possible

Rob Frehn III received an plaque for being certified as FF1

The Fire Police will all receive an appreciation gift card towards a meal at Hoss's Steak house

Longaberger Basket Drawing

The Fire Company Auxiliary is holding a Longaberger Basket Drawing on Friday night April 11, 2008. There is ONLY 300 tickets being sold. The ticket includes 32 baskets to be given away and a meal. Tickets are only $15 each. If you are interrested in a ticket see any Auxiliary member or call Dan Burkett @ 717-729-0725.

South End Firefighters Outdoor Extravaganza

On Saturday January 26 members of South Newton and West End Stuffed tickets for the South End Firefighters Outdoor Extravaganza. Tickets will be available in the next couple days. See any member for tickets or call the firehouse at 717-532-4999 and laeve a message.

Brush & Utility Update

The brush truck is now lettered and has the flatbed installed. we are waiting for the Emergency lighting and the skid unit. The Utility is lettered and awaiting the Emergency lighting. It has ran 2 Medical calls.

Garage Fire 1-2-08

Engine and Tanker 49 responded to assist Co. 52 on January 2 for a garage fire at 175 Witmer Rd. in Southampton Twp.

Brush & Utility Update

A crew of company members made the road trip today to Day Fleet in Monroeville, PA to pick up our 2 new trucks. They will both be headed to Statler Bros. truck bodies in Marion, Pa to have work done . Stay tuned for more info as it becomes available.

2007 STATS

Company 49 ended 2007 with 198 Fire/EMS calls. More stats will be posted as they become available.

New Brush & Utility Update

The Company voted to purchase 2 - 2008 Dodge Quad Cab 4x4 Pick up trucks to be used for a Brush and Utility. We should have the trucks in the early part of January and then we will have the trucks outfitted for there use. Some of the work will be performed by the company members. Stay tuned for updates in the coming weeks.

Free Smoke Detectors

GET YOUR FREE SMOKE DETECTOR-

   On October 17th, the South Newton Township  Volunteer Fire Company received smoke detectors from ABC27 News in their "Operation Save A Life" program.    South Newton Twp. Vol. Fire Company  along with over 150 other Fire Departments in the mid state ABC27 News Station and the Smoke detector manufacture KIDDE, who donated 10,000 smoke detectors, hope to distribute the smoke detectors to those who are in need of a new detector.      

Senior citizens needing help installing the detectors can ask for assistance and the South Newton Twp. Vol. Fire Co.  will schedule a time for installment. 

Residence should have 1 smoke detector for each level of their house. Replace old smoke detectors that are over 10 years old. Get smoke detectors for newly constructed houses.
