Fire Prevention grant awarded

Company 49 is proud to be part of a regional fire prevention grant, the following is the artical that was in the Sentinel.

West Pennsboro Volunteer Fire Co. has been awarded a $20,025 fire prevention and safety grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

The fire company — along with Friendship Hose Co., Upper Frankford Township Volunteer Fire Co., Penn Township Volunteer Fire Co. and South Newton Township Volunteer Fire Co. — will conduct a joint Fire Prevention Week campaign Oct. 4 through 10.

The companies will distribute fire safety information and install free smoke detectors in the area served by the Big Spring School District.

“This coordinated approach will enhance the impact of Fire Prevention Week, increase awareness of fire safety among our youth and ultimately save lives,” said Jim Ryan, chief of Company 46, West Pennsboro Fire Company.

The grant also provides for purchasing and installing lock boxes to facilitate rapid entry into all school district buildings and key boxes in responding fire apparatus.
